This is our 7th annual convention, and we’ve decided that’s our lucky number. Yes, after much deliberation, we have decided to hang up our event planning hats and this will be our LAST convention. We’ve had a blast bringing you some wonderful events and want to make our final convention the best of all. You don’t want to miss it!
Join us as we return to the Providence, Rhode Island area for a fun-filled event as we will recall the divinely decadent 1980s with a Lifestyles of the Rich and Fabulous weekend!

The convention commences with registration at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 20 followed by afternoon speakers and adjourns at noon on Sunday, Oct. 22 after our morning educational workshops. However, we have special Thursday activities as noted below and Friday morning jewelry-making workshops available, so you may want to consider arriving early.

Our attendees will also enjoy meals together during the convention weekend; our open-to-the-public Saturday Show and Sale; and a fun-filled celebration Saturday evening including the presentation of the 2017 CJCI Achievement Award.

We have some very exciting news for you! Attendees at CJCI Convention 2017 will have the rare opportunity to see highlights from the upcoming Joseff of Hollywood movie-worn costume jewelry auction during our event.

Yes, those joining us for our Lifestyles of the Rich and Fabulous weekend on Oct. 20-22, 2017 will get to meet Tina Joseff and view a selection of Joseff jewelry worn by stars like Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, and the unforgettable Vivien Leigh. Don’t miss this opportunity to see a portion of the collection together one last time before these pieces are sold to the highest bidders in November!

This special presentation is brought to you by Julien’s Auctions in partnership with CJCI. You don’t want to miss it!

Join us in welcoming the following speakers and special guests during CJCI Convention 2017:

Pat Ciner Hill of Ciner New York – Honorary guests, Pat Ciner Hill, together with her daughter Jean Hill will be accepting this year’s CJCI Achievement Award in recognition of their family-owned business and their contributions to the costume jewelry industry. They are celebrating their 125th year in business in 2017 as the only surviving costume jewelry company left in New York City that designs, manufactures, and produces each piece by hand at a single site. Ciner is known for its superior quality and design, among jewelry enthusiasts and celebrities. To learn more about Ciner jewelry, please click here.

Elyse Karlin of ASJRA – Representing the Association for the Study of Jewelry and Related Arts, this respected jewelry historian, lecturer, and editor of ASJRA’s Adornment publication, will conduct two Sunday morning workshops: “Arts & Crafts vs. Art Nouveau” and “Jewelry of Iconic First Ladies.”

Erik Yang – Long-time CJCI members know Erik as an astute jewelry dealer and fervent collector. He will present “The 1980s: The Trends, the Influences, and the Designers” to expand on the theme for our weekend.

Julie Irving – Julie’s enthusiasm for researching and sharing costume jewelry knowledge with others includes an informative online video series. She will share her research on one of our vintage favorites presenting “Schiaparelli Jewelry: A Study of Collaboration.”

Deirdre Zahl – We first met Deirdre at our 2015 convention and have since fallen in love with her passion for both vintage jewelry and contemporary design. She will be presenting “Ciner & Candy Shop Vintage: Tradition and Modern Whimsy Meet in a New Collaboration Between Ciner Manufacturing and an Emerging Jewelry Designer.”

Sharon Schwartz – Many of our attendees got to know this recent author during last year’s event. She will be sharing with us information and research she gleaned for her new book Eisenberg Originals: The Golden Years of Fashion, Jewelry, and Fragrance, 1920s-1950s.

Other special guests from the costume jewelry industry, including Tina Joseff of Joseff of Hollywood and Tony Angeli of Vendome, will be joining us as convention attendees and dinner guests throughout the weekend.

Providence Jewelry Museum – A favorite stop for convention attendees on Thursday is the Providence Jewelry Museum. This exhibit displays many artifacts from the early Providence jewelry-making industry including presses, design books, catalogs and finished product. Staff will be on-hand to give mini-tours of the museum from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This is a must see, particularly for first-time attendees. Donations are welcome at the museum to help support this non-profit organization.

Rhode Island Antiques Mall – As a past favorite among our attendees, the Rhode Island Antiques Mall will be hosting another wonderful wine and cheese shopping event for our attendees. From 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., the mall will be open to us for private shopping including special discounts and prizes for the best vintage clothing worn by attendees.

Wolf E. Myrow – This treasure trove of a warehouse filled with stones and findings has been a top-of-the-list destination for jewelry enthusiasts for decades. Do some pre-conference shopping with Wolf E. Myrow and get a 10% discount on your total purchase. Don’t forget to say hi to Chris in the Swarovski room upstairs!

Waliga Imports – Our attendees had a blast visiting this unbelievable warehouse stocked with everything from finished jewelry close-outs to jewelry making supplies last year, and we’re pleased to have them on our pre-con agenda again. They’ve recently added an awesome buyout of high quality beads to their massive inventory, too. Shop with Waliga Imports and get a 15% discount on your total purchase as a CJCI convention attendee.

Make plans to arrive early to take advantage of every minute of education and fun our final event has to offer!
