August 24, 2019J.R. Wood & Sons 1923 Jewelry Catalog
Thanks to Nona Grampp, of “Nona’s of Alexandria @ RubyLane”, for allowing me to share her photos of this J.R. Wood & Sons Jewelry catalog from the year 1923.
The company was established in 1850 by J.R. Wood whose two sons later became partners. In 1970 the company merged with Lenox, Inc. of Trenton, NJ, and the name was changed to Art-Carved, Inc. in 1975. (Rainwater) Such publications for fine jewelry help us date costume jewelry from the same era, because costume jewelry usually reflects fine jewelry styles and materials. For example, if karat gold and pearls were popular in fine jewelry, then gold colored metal and imitation pearls would likely be popular in costume jewelry. |
